I'm so excited to share with you guys a fun opportunity that I have for the month of November and that is that I am the hostess for a special challenge group for demonstrators over at the Splicoaststampers website. So if you are a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator come play along with us. If you are not a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and you still want to join in the fun, create a card and upload it to blog and create a link here by leaving a comment. I'd love to see your take on these challenges. Now let's get started.
Challenge #1—Square Cards: I love to make square cards. Check out my sample below. I created a square using the Big Shot Square Scallop Die. Since Christmas is quickly approaching, I decided to make mine a Christmas card with the Welcome Christmas stamp set but yours can be for any occasion.
I really like the vintage look for Christmas and was able to created that look with some distressing and sponging. For the base I used a piece of Early Espresso card stock that I cut with the Square Scallop Die by placing the fold on the inside edge of one side of the scallops. The next layer is a piece of DSP from the Candy Cane Lane collection. I then added another layer of Early Espresso topped with a piece of Very Vanilla that I stamped the sledding image from Welcome Christmas on in Baja Breeze Ink. I tied a piece of the oh so fabulous 1 1/4" Early Espresso Grosgrain Ribbon around and knotted. I raised this entire piece with dimensionals. To finish it off, I stamped the word "Merry" from the Teeny Tiny Wishes on a piece of Very Vanilla and punched it out with the Jewelry Tag Punch and added it to the ribbon with a tiny safety pin from the new Vintage Trinkets.
Supplies:
Stamps: Welcome Christmas, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Card Stock: Early Espresso & Very Vanilla
Ink: Baja Breeze & Early Espresso
Big Shot Dies: Scallop Square
Accessories: 1 1/4" Early Espresso Grosgrain Ribbon, Vintage Trinkets, Jewelry Tag Punch, Sponge, Distressing Tools, Candy Cane Lane DSP
Challenge #2—Color Combo: I have been having fun with the new Color Coach and trying out the various color combinations. One of my favorites has been Pear Pizzaz, Rich Razzleberry and Tempting Turquoise. So this challenge is to use those 3 colors together. You can create a card, scrapbook page or 3-D item. The skies the limit, just make sure you use those 3 colors.
For this card I began with a piece of Rich Razzleberry card stock that I ran through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Impression Folder. Next I stamped the tea cups from the set in Black Stazon Ink on a piece of Shimmery White card stock. I then colored the cups in with my 3 challenge colors using my Aqua Painter. I mounted this piece on some Pear Pizzaz Card Stock and added the Tempting Turquoise just on the edge made out of the Scallop Trim Border Punch. I stamped the greeting on a scrap of shimmery white and cut out with the Jewelry Tag Punch and added it with a double layer of Linen Thread. I raised the whole focal point with some dimensionals and finished the whole thing off with some little Rhinestones in the corner for a little added bling.
Supplies:
Stamps: Morning Cup
Card Stock: Shimmery White, Rich Razzleberry, Pear Pizzaz, Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Black Stazon, Rich Razzleberry, Pear Pizzaz, Tempting Turquoise
Accessories: Perfect Polka Dots Impression Folder, Linen Thread, Jewelry Tag Punch
Challenge #3—Inexpensive Christmas Gifts: We all know that times are tough and budgets are tight, but it is always nice to give a little something to those special people in your life. So I challenge you to come up with an inexpensive Christmas Gift using any color combination or supplies you like as long as it doesn't cost more than $3 to create including the gift and the packaging.
This is a package of microwave kettle-corn that is wrapped up in some festive trimmings. I started with a piece of Cherry Cobble Card Stock that I ran through the Big Shot using the Northern Flurry Impression Folder. Next, I used my Craft White Stamp pad to add color to make the snowflakes stand out more. I then added a little more here and there to add to the distressing. Then I added some distressing with the Early Espresso Ink and a sponge.
For the focal point, I stamped the Wreath from Welcome Christmas in Old Olive on a piece of Crumb Cake card stock, colored in the berries with Cherry Cobbler an distressed it a good bit and sponged with the Early Espresso ink. I then layered it on a piece of Early Espresso Card Stock. Next, I stamped the banner in Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler on Very Vanilla. I cut out the Early Espresso piece and then just the center of the Cherry Cobbler piece and layered on top of the Early Expresso piece with dimensionals. I then used more dimensionals to add the banner to the top of the tag. I used the Decorative Label punch to create a tab for the top of the tag out of Cherry Cobbler and sponged it. Lastly, I added two adhesive pearls that I colored using a Green Sharpie marker and muted its brightness with a brown sharpie marker (it makes it have that vintage look similar to what the sponging does.) To hold the tag on I used some 1 1/4" Early Espresso Grosgrain Ribbon and some Crochet Trim.
